BROOKS' TWO-STEP FUNCTION FOR THE DIABATIC WIND PROFILE: A FORTRAN IV PROGRAM.

Abstract

A computer program for least-squares fitting of Brooks' 2-step diabatic profile function to experimental micrometeorological data was developed. Results of fitting the Brooks function to three sets of data are compared to results obtained from fitting a simple log-plus-linear function to the same data. The Brooks function is shown to fit the data as well as, or better than, the log-linear function, and is also shown to avoid the problem of function-induced curvature at the top of the profile.
