ULTRASONIC REFLECTIVITY OF CORRODED SURFACES.

Abstract

Useful information about the physical properties of solid surfaces can often be obtained from a simple study of ultrasonic reflectivity versus angle of incidence. The paper briefly describes a reflection technique which facilitates rapid examination of metal surfaces and discusses application of the technique to the study of corrosion. Results from several types of oxidized and corroded surfaces are presented and interpreted in terms of the physical properties of substrate metal and corrosion products. (Author)
