COMPLEX STUDY OF THE BASIC STAGES OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IN THE FATIGUE OF CERTAIN FERROUS ALLOYS,

Abstract

A complex method was developed for obtaining diagrams of fatigue failures by means of electrical induction tests, x-ray diffraction, light and electron microscopy, and microhardness tests. Fatigue tests of Armco Fe and 0.08% C steel were made at 12-40 kg/sq mm loads and 5 Hz. frequency. The development of submicroscopic cracks and further disintegration of the metal are discussed and illustrated by electron micrographs. (Author)
