UBVRIJKL PHOTOMETRY OF CLASSICAL CEPHEID VARIABLE STARS AND UBVRIJHKLM PHOTOMETRY OF M SUPERGIANT STARS.

Abstract

Light curves of 20 Cepheid variable stars have been defined by our observations made with UBVRIJKL FILTERS5 The intrinsic colors of these stars were determined at various phases of the light curves, and at minimum light these colors seem quite similar to those of supergiant stars of the same spectral type. Bolometric corrections were computed and applied to the observations in order to derive the bolometric-magnitude curves. The temperature variations occurring in each star and the relative changes in each stellar radius were determined. The changes in kilometers of the stellar radii were obtained from observations of the radial velocity curves, and the stellar absolute magnitudes were then determined. UBVRIJHKLM observations of 105 high luminosity stars of M spectral type have been obtained. There are 390 observations with the UBVRI filters and 460 with the JHKL filters. Very few observations were made with the N filter, and these have been excluded. The reduction and analysis of the observational data has been completed.
