AN APPLICATION OF OPTIMAL CONTROL THEORY.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show that optimal control theory can be used to develop a control strategy for a practical system, namely a distillation column. The approach will be to model the complex system with a simple model, use optimal control theory to determine a control strategy for the simple model, and then apply the results to the original system.
