THE ANALYSIS OF LAMINAR WAKES IN SUPERSONIC FLOW BY THE METHOD OF INTEGRAL RELATIONS.

Abstract

The singular points in the recompression region of the wake behind a hypersonic re-entry body (with a flat base) are analyzed using the method of integral relations. It is shown that the critical point just downstream of the wake reattachment point is a saddle point. Integral curves are generated connecting this point with the base flow region. All viscous effects are neglected upstream of the base shoulder; downstream of it a Chapman type solution is used to connect the integrals issuing from the saddle points. A suitable matching of flow parameters yields a unique near wake solution. Two sample cases are carried through in detail. Good agreement with experimental results is found. (Author)
