A STUDY OF A SHELL DESIGN HAVING A LONG OGIVE AND A DETACHABLE BOURRELET,

Abstract

The Establissements Edgar Brandt have produced a long range shell having a long ogive and a detachable bourrelet. It is shown that, using the detachable bourrelet, a conservative shell design can be made which is expected to surpass the performance of the Brandt shell. With this type of shell, it is believed possible to obtain a range of 16,000 yards with a 75 mm gun, and nearly 25,000 yards with a 155 mm gun. (Author)
