TORQUE ON A NON-ROTATING PROPELLER MOVING AXIALLY THROUGH WATER,

Abstract

Data for estimating the torque exerted on a non-rotating propeller moving through the water in a direction parallel to the shaft axis were assembled from the results of tests on models of various ships and were evaluated. The data are presented in both tabular and graphical form. Formulas are given for estimating locked torque, which are believed to be accurate within plus or minus five per cent, and which utilize only such data as are conveniently available to the designer.
