SEROLOGICAL RECONNAISSANCE OF GROUP A AND B ARBOVIRUSES IN 6 AREAS OF AZERBAYDZHAN,

Abstract

The hemagglutination-inhibition test with antigens of WEE, EEE, Chikungunya, Sindbis, West Nile, St. Louis, Ntayya, Japanese and tick-borne encephalitis viruses was used for the investigation of 1462 human and 1322 cattle sera collected in 6 areas of Azerbaydzhan. No antibody to WEE, EEE, Sindbis, Chikungunya, tick-borne encephalitis and St. Louis viruses was detected. Antihemagglutinins and virus-neutralizing antibodies to the West Nile virus were found in inhabitants of 5 areas of the 6 areas examined. Analysis of the results of the HI tests with members of the Japanese encephalitis virus subgroup and materials of the investigation of sera in the neutralization reaction give reason for supposing that the appearance of antihemagglutinins is due to infection with the West Nile virus.
