GAS OPACITY MEASUREMENTS WITH A BALLISTIC PISTON COMPRESSOR.

Abstract

The investigation described in the report represent a continuation of a study undertaken of the opacity mechanisms present in a hydrogen/helium plasma at a temperature of 5000 deg K, and a pressure of about 2000 atm. Special attention was paid to the ultraviolet spectral region 1750 to 2500 A where quasi-molecular hydrogen association is expected to be an important opacity producing mechanism. (Author)
