STRESS WAVE DISPERSION ROD-REINFORCED COMPOSITES.

Abstract

A dispersion model to calculate the distortion of stress pulses in a fiber-reinforced composite where the fibers are considerably stiffer than the matrix is postulated. The governing equations for a simple, approximate theory are derived and compared with the results of a similar calculation, using the exact geometry with the linear theory of elasticity. Possible extensions of the approximate theory are discussed. (Author)
