CATAPULT CRITERIA FOR A CARRIER-BASED AIRPLANE.

Abstract

A method for establishing catapult criteria for carrier based airplanes was developed. An analysis of the catapult performance was made of five airplanes. The results of this analysis along with numerous pilot interviews form the basis of the study. The five test airplanes cover a wide range of the weights represented by the carrier based airplanes currently in operation. The method for establishing the catapult criteria is based on a single parameter called the critical endspeed. Also, a method is given for determining the critical endspeed for a given airplane configuration. (Author)
