EQUIPMENT FOR MAGNETIC PULSE METAL WORKING BY PRESSURE,

Abstract

The basic theoretical principles underlying magnetic-pulse pressure working of metals are briefly reviewed, and the main parameters involved in the design and operation of magnetic-pulse forming machines are discussed. Scientific research work on the design and manufacture of magnetic-pulse machines is conducted at ENIKMASh, although the development of low-induction high-voltage capacitors is said to be done at other organizations. The magnetic-pulse machines designed, built and presently used for scientific research work at the ANIKMASh have a power capacity of 18.75, 12.2. kjoule supplied by a bank of parallel-connected 10 IM-5/150, 8 IM-5/150 or 7 IMU-5/140 capacitors at a voltage of 5, 4.5 and 5 kv, respectively. The first of these banks has coaxial busbars; the remaining two have flat busbars. The units have a respective natural frequency of 8.55, 6.7 and 18 kc, and an internal resistance of 0.00176 and 0.00916 ohm. At present, ENIKHMASh conducts work on the design of experimental-industrial units, and on the development and introduction of methods for magnetic-pulse pressure-working of metals into industrial practice.
