EMBRITTLEMENT BY LIQUID METALS.

Abstract

A research project concerned with liquid-metal embrittlement (LME) is summarized. Of particular interest have been quantitative determinations of the fracture behavior of simple embrittlement couples such as pure solid zinc in pure liquid mercury, in order to provide the basis for a better understanding of the mechanism of LME.
