CALCULATION OF OPEN RESONATORS IN AN APPROXIMATION OF GEOMETRIC OPTICS,

Abstract

In resolving problems related to the calculation of resonators in the optical range in many cases the methods of geometric optics lead to results which are in sufficient agreement with experimental. The relative simplicity and calrity of these methods justify the attempt to expand their field of application. By comparing the solutions and conclusions obtained in this approximation with experimental results and solutions obtained by other methods it is possible to determine the conditions of their applicability and the possibility of extrapolation. The approximation of geometric optics (in combination with certain other methods) is used for establishing an analytical bond between parameters of a resonator (radii of curvature of mirrors, distance between them, etc.) and characteristics of radiation.
