ON THE COMPUTATION OF PLUMBLINE DEFLECTIONS AND QUASIGEOID HEIGHTS IN MOUNTAINS (O Vychislenii Uklonenii Otvesa i Vysot Kvazigeoida v Gorakh),

Abstract

The article gives a review of methods recommended for use in the computation of plumbline deflections and quasigeoid heights in mountains. It is confirmed that Arnold's formulas give a result identical to Molodenskiy's first-approximation formulas. The Aronov-Bjerhammar method, in which the gravity anomalies are interpreted by a material layer at sea level, is recommended for separation of the anomalies' regional part, after which the residual anomalies are interpreted by a material layer on the hypsometric surface. This review deals only with the methods that have been practically tested on models or in actual computations in mountain regions. (Author)
