Abstract

The paper describes the types and applications of small calculators and summarizes the performance specifications of some Russian machines. (1) SDM-107 - an adding machine, 140 operations per minute, ten place numbers, motor driven, adds, subtracts; (2) 'Felix' - a lever arithmometer, non-automatic, multiplies, divides, adds, subtracts, thirteen place numbers, manual operation; (3) VK-1 - a ten key, non-automatic machine for multiplication and division; (4) VK-2 - a semi-automatic machine in which only the division is carried out automatically; (5) VK-3 - a fully automatic calculator capable of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing; (6) VMM-2 - a multi-key calculator capable of the four basic and some auxilliary mathematical operations, processes 17 digit numbers, motor driven; (7) desk top relay calculators 'Vyatka' and 'Vil'nyus', four basic operations, exponentiation, multiplication with subtraction, multiplication with addition, difference and sum of products, difference of squares of two numbers, automatic operation, 300 cycles per minute, 16 place numbers.
