ATMOSPHERIC PROPAGATION WITH THERMAL BLOOMING,

Abstract

Thermal blooming of a laser beam is described by a model equation for the trajectory of a selected profile ray. The model equation is applied to an examination of optical focusing for increasing transmitted power density. It is shown that the model equation is asymptotic in the far field to the geometric far field solution based on Snell's law for a stratified medium. (Author)
