Handbook of Geophysics and Space Environments. Chapter 9. Refraction, Attenuation, and Backscattering of Electromagnetic Waves in the Troposphere
Abstract
The need for geophysical and astrophysical information is critical for the design of aircraft, missiles, and satellites. The HANDBOOK OF GEOPHYSICS AND SPACE ENVIRONMENTS is an attempt by the U. S. Air Force to organize some of these data into compact form. The effects of the lower atmosphere on propagation of electromagnetic waves in the optical, microwave, and radio regions are discussed in this Chapter; the emphasis is on information useful in meteorological investigations.
