AN EVALUATION OF A NEW PLASTIC FILM FOR USE IN HIGH ALTITUDE BALLOONS,

Abstract

Tests were performed on samples of a new plastic film (trade name - Perflex B-1000) in order to determine its suitability for use in the production of high altitude balloons. Both 2.0 mil and 1.0 mil samples, produced on laboratory size extruders, were tested in order to determine their mechanical properties, both time independent and time dependent, at both launch and tropopause temperatures. In addition, the suitability of various types of seals was also investigated. (Author)
