GENERALIZED INVARIANCE PRINCIPLES AND THE THEORY OF STABILITY,

Abstract

During the period 1960-65 there was developed for ordinary differential equations an extension of Liapunov's stability theory based on a simple exploitation of the invariance property of limit sets of solutions. The basic result of this theory has been called an 'invariance principle'. The purpose of this paper is to describe some recent extensions of the invariance principle to more generalized dynamical systems where the state space is not locally compact and the flow is unique only in the forward direction of time.
