CALCULATION OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL FLOWS OF EQUILIBRIUM AND PERFECT GAS BY THE NET-POINT METHOD,

Abstract

The article presents a detailed calculation of two-demensional supersonic flows of equilibrium and perfect gas over blunt bodies by the net method. The application of this method to determination of the supersonic region of the flow near blunted, axisymmetric bodies is described. Shock-wave shapes and pressure distribution in the flow over a sphere and blunt cylinder at various Mach numbers (2-10 and infinity) are given in graphs. They show that everywhere in the shock layer the streamlines are directed from the body surface toward the bow wave, and that the vortex layer occupies a substantial region of the flow, and also that nearly all of the mass of gas concentrates near the shock wave surface.
