PENTAVALENT COMPOUNDS OF PHOSPHORUS,

Abstract

Alkyl(aryl)tetrafluoro phosphoranes (I) and dialkyltrifluoro phosphoranes (II) may be used as intermediates in the preparation of pesticides and other compounds. In the known methods, I and II are formed in low yield and in some cases deficit starting compounds are required. A new method is described by which I and II are formed in 75 to 80 percent yield. The reaction mixture is heated at 60 to 70 degrees centigrade with reflux. Methyltetrafluoro phosphorane, ethyltetrafluoro phosphorane, trichloromethyl-tetrafluoro phosphorane, phenyltetrafluoro phosphorane, and dimethyltrifluoro phosphorane were prepared by this method.
