THE CHARACTER OF SOLID AEROSOL SEDIMENTATION IN IMPACT COLLECTORS,

Abstract

The spectrum and concentration of solid and certain weakly evaporating liquid aerosols were studied at the VGI (Alpine Geophysical Institute). Several versions of impact collectors were constructed; air was pumped through a nozzle, hitting a plate covered with a special lubricant. The aerosol sediment remaining on the plate was studied under an optical or electron microscope. Tests were conducted in a hygrostat and the relationship between the onset of spraying (which makes samples unsuitable for photographing) and the temperature and humidity was determined. Tests were also made on the effectiveness of aerosol sedimentation versus humidity. (Author)
