COINCIDENT NEUTRON EQUIPMENT.

Abstract

Coincident neutron detectors have been developed which can distinguish between neutrons occurring as a result of fission and those due to (alpha,n) or (gamma,n) nuclear reactions. These detectors are described and several examples of their use are reported. Theoretical relations which predict count rates as a function of sample and equipment characteristics are developed. These permit the potential usefulness of coincidence measurements to be ascertained for any given set of circumstances. (Author)
