RESPONSES OF THE VASCULAR SYSTEM IN RELATION TO THE HORMONE BACKGROUND.
Abstract
This report discusses work on the actions and possible functions of the neurohpophysical hormones, vasopressin and oxytocin (apart from those already recognized) and in particular their relationship to the vascular system, and in what way the activity of these two substances is changed when the gonadal hormone and other hormone background alters. The main objective was to throw some light on why there are differences in time of life when hypertensive disease appears in male and female subjects; to throw some light on the stabilizing influence of androgens in the vascular system; to investigate the mode of action of gonadal hormones on the vascular system. Most of the observations have been made during acute experiments on dogs. Some observations have also been made on rats. (Author)
