A SIMPLE HIGH-PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK MODULATION SYSTEM.

Abstract

A low-level AM modulation system suitable for broadband operation is described in this report. The system, which can be peripherally added to an existing power amplifier, employs feedback to reduce envelope distortion. Gain leveling over a broadband of frequencies is achieved, and the output of the system, being controlled by a reference voltage, is desensitized to changes in RF excitation. Test results taken on a system built for 225 - 400 MHz operation are given. The essential characteristics of the components used in the design are briefly described. Overall, the system was capable of producing modulation percentages of up to 85% with resulting envelope distortion of less than 5%. (Author)
