Improvement of the Useful Temperature Range of Rubber Shock Mounts.

Abstract

Shock mounts prepared from compounds based on emulsion polymerized SBR, solution- polymerized SBR, and high-strength silicone elastomers were tested under shear loads over a temperature range from -67 degrees F TO +158 degrees F. Silicone mounts exhibit nigligible change in spring rate over this temperature range. The solution-polymerized SBR-based mounts are equal in performance or slightly better than silicone mounts at temperatures down to -40 degrees F; but, below this temperature, these mounts become progressively less flexible.
