BULK SEMICONDUCTOR LIMITERS.

Abstract

The report discusses the progress made toward the optimization of the existing X-band, silicon microwave limiter component and the development of a similar Ku-band microwave limiter component. X-band devices were designed and fabricated which provide small low level insertion loss along with increased isolation at high power levels and increased power handling capability. Also discussed are the fabrication and test results for a GaAs limiter device mounted in a simple resonant iris limiter at Ku-band is presented and the low level test results are discussed. The devices meet the low level specifications of the supporting contract. Several X-band silicon limiter devices were mounted in simple resonant irises and encapsulated with a suitable resin. A small but acceptable increase in low level insertion loss was noted along with an increase in incident power level without gaseous arcing. (Author)
