CHARACTERISTICS OF ELASTICITY OF TUNGSTEN, MOLYBDENUM, NIOBIUM, AND THEIR ALLOYS AT 20 TO 2,700C

Abstract

The article presents the results of experiments, determine the modulus of elasticity and rigidity of tungsten, molybdenum, niobium and their alloys at 20-2700 degrees centigrade. Ingots of the above metals and their alloys were heated to 1400-1600 degrees centigrade and deformed with 60-85 percent reduction. The modulus of elasticity and rigidity of specimens prepared from the ingots were determined by means of a dynamic method using a resonant frequency of the transverse and torsional vibrations. It was found that the modulus of elasticity and rigidity of tungsten, molybdenum, and tungsten- molybdenum alloys decreased with increasing temperature. The modulus of elasticity and rigidity of niobium remained practically constant to about 1400 degrees centigrade beyond which they began to decrease with increasing temperature. Alloying with tungsten and molybdenum increased the modulus of elasticity and rigidity of niobium alloys.
