A STUDY OF THE MAGNITUDE OF THE SEASONAL, CLIMATIC AND DAY-NIGHT VARIATION IN THE TROPOSPHERE.
Abstract
This report consists of a study of seasonal, climatic, and day-night variations in calculated tropospheric refractivity at three selected stations over a six year period, with a comparison of the relative magnitude of the three variations. The total refractivity N is approximately a negative exponential with altitude and this function has been fitted to the calculated data. It was found that while the seasonal, and climatic variation produced a larger variation in the refractivity, the day-night variation was relatively small. A detailed description, including flow diagrams and Fortran IV coding, is given for the program used in this study to reduce and evaluate the data. (Author)
