ADAPTIVE SIGNAL PROCESSING FOR IONOSPHERIC DISTORTION CORRECTION

Abstract

Ionospheric distortions limit the usable signal bandwidth of HF over- the-horizon paths. By measuring the transfer function of the path and correcting for it in real time, improved bandwidth capability results. To determine the feasibility of such a real-time correction technique, data has been gathered on an HF link. A non-real-time computer simulation of a correction technique has shown that for the bandwidths analyzed, the correction technique is feasible and that the corrections will not deteriorate significantly for several seconds.
