NONSYMMETRIC AND NONLINEAR DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF THIN SHELLS. VOLUME I. USER'S MANUAL FOR STAR (SHELL TRANSIENT ASYMMETRIC RESPONSE),

Abstract

A computer program called STAR (Shell Transient Asymmetric Response) has been developed for the two-dimensional dynamic response of arbitrary shells. The program is based, in part, on Kempner's shell equations which include nonlinear geometric terms. The partial differential equations of motion have been reduced to a set of time-dependent ordinary differential equations by use of two-dimensional finite difference approximations for derivatives with respect to the shell's middle surface coordinates. An explicit numerical integration method is employed for the solution of the ordinary equations. (Author)
