CLOSED CIRCUIT TV AND THE EDUCATION OF THE PARTIALLY SIGHTED,

Abstract

The author believes that the informal testing program, which involved the cooperation of more than 50 legally blind adults and children with a wide variety of eye disorders, has shown that closed circuit TV is significantly more useful to many legally blind people than any purely optical aid they have ever used. While the author believes that closed circuit TV will or need wholely supplant the use of large print books, taped or recorded material or sighted readers, it will over time reduce the need for those materials and services. What is more important, however, is that it will increase the independence of the partially sighted and broaden their educational opportunities. (Author)
