THE COST OF A KIA.

Abstract

This study presents, discusses, and offers a solution to the problem of estimating the value of a soldiers life. The different aspects of life valuation are discussed in terms of losses that result to both the military and to society in general when a soldier is killed. These losses are further identified as to whether they fall into one of two categories, tangible or intangible. Although the study is mainly concerned with the tangible losses, a procedure is offered that will ensure inclusion of the intangible losses in the overall cost determination of a KIA. For the tangible losses, a mathematical model is developed for computing the economic loss of both an officer and enlisted KIA to society and to the military. (Author)
