THE MONSTER BUOY, ITS DATA ACQUISITION TELEMETRY AND COMMAND SYSTEMS,

Abstract

The working subsystems of an oceanographic data acquisition system that has been developed for the Office of Naval Research as a general purpose scientific instrument are described. The functional operations of the buoy's telemetry and command system, data acquisition and control system and sensors are discussed, as well as the shore-based mobile data center. The functional operation of data center equipment, in conjunction with the buoy data and telemetry system, is discussed in detail. Shore-to-buoy commands and buoy-to-shore data transmissions are described. (Author)
