ELECTROLUMINESCENT THIN FILM RESEARCH.

Abstract

Through continued development and control of deposition parameters, EL thin films were fabricated with improved reproducibility. Two categories of characteristics were correlated in a phenomenological way with film preparation techniques. On one hand, films capable of modest maximum luminance but long life were prepared. On the other hand were films capable of extremely high maximum luminance but with short times to half-brightness. Improvements in dielectric strength were made with an additional layer. Oxygen added during phosphor deposition decreased the turn-on time. A 7 inch x 7 inch crossed electrode, ultrahigh contrast EL panel with 258 x 258 elements was made for evaluation as a multiformat display. A dual bargraph vertical scale EL display was demonstrated in the form of an engine performance indicator. (Author)
