SEMI-ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT, JULY 1 - Dec 31, 1969.

Abstract

Progress on work done under each of 3 tasks (1 Physical Oceanography, 2 - Marine Geophysics and Geology, and 3 - Chemical Oceanography) are reported for subject contract. The work described under (1) deals with subsurface current measurements in the vicinity of the Hawaiian Islands and the development of a tracking system for surface buoys. Under (2) results are described for crustal refraction measurements using sonobuoys and the Columbia University bottom seismic observatory off Point Arenas, California, as receiving stations; the results for sparker, 3.5 kHz, 12 kHz, air gun, and explosive reflection and refraction measurements taken on the 1968-69 cruise to the Solomon Islands area; core analyses; heat flow, gravity, magnetic, and paleomagnetic data obtained on the same cruise. Under (3) the results of carbonate studies of sea water in the Pacific area are described. (Author)
