ON LAUNCHING AN AZIMUTHAL SURFACE WAVE ON A CYLINDRICAL IMPEDANCE BOUNDARY,

Abstract

The launching of azimuthal surface waves on a cylindrical boundary is considered. The excitation aperture is the open end of a waveguide whose outer wall is concentric with the cylindrical reactive boundary. The exact formal solution of the dual integral equations is cast in a form which shows the close similarity with the result predicted by Kirchhoff theory. The general solution for the fields is reduced in order to discuss the excitation of the dominant surface wave on a purely reactive boundary. (Author)
