A PRIMER ON THE CONTINUUM THEORY OF DISLOCATIONS.

Abstract

The basis of the formal theory of the tensor description of dislocation theory is presented in an unpretentious, yet fairly rigorous, fashion for the purpose of establishing a mutual language of communication between the disciplines of applied mechanics and materials science. Examples illustrating the types of problems that can be solved and the techniques for solving these problems are given. The resulting simplifications are noted in the normally difficult solution for stress caused by a prismatic dislocation loop. (Author)
