THE MEAN TERRAIN EFFECT,

Abstract

One interpretation of the boundary-value problem in the light of modern gravimetric theories suggests that the terrain effect be applied to the free-air anomalies used in various calculations. As summations required for gravimetric computations are usually applied to mean anomalies of various sizes, it is pertinent to study the magnitude and manner of computation of these terrain effects. Two test areas were chosen for this study. Generally it was found that the mean terrain effect may be considerable for small blocks in rugged areas with some diminishing of the mean effect for larger blocks. (Author)
