A COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF METHODS USED FOR VIROLOGIC DIAGNOSIS OF TICKBORNE ENCEPHALITIS IN NATURAL FOCI,

Abstract

The paper discusses results of isolation of tickborne encephalitis virus from the blood of patients and from ticks by different methods in natural foci of tickborne encephalitis of Kemerovo region. The possibility of isolation of tickborne encephalitis virus by the CPE in primarily trypsinized Syrian hamster kidney cell culture was demonstrated. Comparison of the effectiveness and sensitivity of different methods showed the superiority of virus isolation method in newborne white mice and by enrichment in chick embryo tissue culture and in the developing chick embryos. In comparison of methods for detection of tickborne encephalitis virus in the maintenance medium of tissue cultures the technique of detection by the plaque-forming activity was found to be promising.
