COMPARATIVE ELECTRON MICROSCOPIC INVESTIGATION OF THE NUCLEOLAR STRUCTURE OF ARGASID TICK SPERMATOCYTES,

Abstract

A comparative description is presented of the structure of the true spermatocyte nucleoli of two argasid tick species; Argas persicus and Alectorobius tholozani. Despite the difference in the structure of the nucleoli, found both in the light and electron microscopes, their ultrathin structures are very similar and consist of plexuses of fine fibrils, 30-40 A in diameter, making up a kind of nucleolar framework embedded in an electron-homogeneous mass. Difference in the number and arrangement of fibrils and, particularly, in the homogeneous substance is responsible for the difference in structure of both nucleoli. (Author)
