3200 ANGSTROM PHOSPHOR.

Abstract

Further improvements were made in techniques for preparing phosphor screens for efficiency tests, and a demountable vacuum station which will allow multi-sample efficiency measurements has been put into operation. New samples of Zn2SiO4:TiO2 were supplied to the 3800 A tube manufacturer, with some improvements made in reducing the particle sizes. An efficiency approaching 6% was measured on a screen settled by the same procedure to be used for the 3800 A tubes. Samples of beta-CaSiO3:Pb continued to show increasing efficiency with loading, and a value of 1.7% was observed at high loading. For beta-BaSi2O5, efficiencies of 4% atlow input and 2% at high input were measured. Efficiencies at low inputs of 2.5% to 3.5% were measured for Ba1.3Zn0.7Si4O10:Pb, but screen darkening under the beam prevented meaningful measurements at higher inputs. Significant improvements have been made in the output from samples of the (Sr,Ca,Zn)3Si2O7:Pb series. Satisfactory preliminary designs for tubes with the UV fiber optic face-plates which have unusual expansion coefficients have been made. (Author)
