INVESTIGATION OF THE KINETICS OF THE -CN BOND TRANSFORMATION IN POLYACRYLONITRILE BY IR ABSORPTION SPECTRA,

Abstract

The CN group of polyacrylonitrile (I) during heating in vacuo is converted to a CN group, conjugated with a ladder polymer. The kinetics of CN group conversion were studied while heating I at 205-70C. IR spectroscopy was used to determine the concentration of the CN groups. From the plots of optical density at 2240/cm vs. time the decompn. rate (r) of I was determined. Plotting log r vs. 1/T (T is temp.) gave an estimate of the process activation energy (E). In the latter case besides the conjugation of I also its thermal decompn. takes place. (Author)
