POLYHEDRONISM VS. ICOSAHEDRONISM.

Abstract

It is possible to consider in a simplistic manner all of the known carboranes and boranes to have been structurally derived from the series of polyhedra which characterizes the closo-carboranes rather than primarily fragments of icosahedral surfaces. The absence of selected boranes may be explained via our treatment and non-icosahedral structures are predicted for a number of C4BnH(n+4) nido-carboranes. (Author)
