ANALYSIS OF PHOSPHOR COMBINATIONS FOR MULTICOLOR, MULTIPERSISTENCE CATHODE RAY TUBES.

Abstract

The project analyzed all potential combinations of CRT faceplate phosphors that are suitable for application in a multilayer, multicolor, multipersistence cathode ray tube. The project purpose was to establish the phosphor combinations that would provide optimum color contrast and persistence characteristics in air traffic control display applications. A special area of concern was a technique for persistence measurement that is representative of the same characteristic that is obtained in actual display operation. Phosphor combinations that are suitable were determined for the case of two long persistence colors, a long and a short persistence color, and two short persistence colors. Five multipersistence, multicolor 16-inch CRT's were fabricated, tested, and delivered to the FAA for operational evaluation. (Author)
