DETERMINATION OF TRUNNION REACTIONS AND DISPLACEMENT VS. TIME DURING ENDURANCE TESTS OF 37MM GUNS M4 FROM OCTOBER 1942 PRODUCTION,

Abstract

Tests of two 37mm Guns (taken from October 1942 production) were made at the beginning, the middle and the end of a 1000 rd. endurance test. No great changes in the operation of either gun was noted, although there were some differences between the two guns. The differences in the guns were most evident in the different piston adjustments necessary to secure proper dash pot action at the end of the counter-recoil stroke. It appears that the specified piston adjustment should be changed from one turn forward of the throttling grooves, to two turns forward of the grooves. (Author)
