RESIDUALS AND THEIR VARIANCE PATTERNS

Abstract

Residuals are usually examined as though they all had the same variance, and this is not generally true. The paper points out the dangers that can arise from certain types of designs. Concern appears to be usually unwarranted, although there are exceptions.
