MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY IN SMALL SAMPLES,

Abstract

An analysis is presented that relates the thermal diffusivity of a small sample in the shape of a disc to the change in phase across the sample of a thermal wave that is set up in it by irradiating one of its traces with a modulated beam of thermal radiation. This analysis is a generalization of one given by Cowan, who treated the one-dimensional case where the sample was in the form of a thin slab. Numerical results illustrating the importance of two-dimensional effects are included. (Author)
